About Us

Stones Bakery is a busy bakery and café in Falmouth. We are expanding to a second site in Penryn in the next couple of months. Good food is at the heart of what we do and we aim to create spaces that are a part of the community. We are a growing but close-knit team and the welfare and work/life balance of our staff is integral to the way we do things.

About the Role

As part of our expansion we are looking for café and bakery team members who will be based between our Falmouth and Penryn sites. The position is a combination of cooking to order from our menu and working as part of the bakery team to produce cakes, pastries and savoury baked goods. The role also includes one day per week as a barista.

This position is majority kitchen based and some food experience is preferred.

This role is 36 hours per week with three days per week 7am-4pm and one day per week 8am-5pm. You will work 4 days per week including two Saturdays in four. Two of your days off per week will be consecutive.

Please note that this is a permanent position not a summer job and it is full time so not suitable for individuals still in education.

About You

Interested in food, cooking and with either kitchen experience or a real desire to develop your skills and confidence in the kitchen.

Responsible and reliable with a hardworking attitude.

Friendly with customers and colleagues maintaining a positive outlook.

Able to work quicky and efficiently.

Willing to get stuck in; we all do the cleaning and washing up!

Able to cope with the demands of being on your feet all day with lots to do.

General Manager

We are in the process of expanding to a second site in Penryn and we are looking for a General Manager to work across our Falmouth and Penryn spaces. The successful candidate will have oversight of all aspects of the day to day running of Stones and work closely with the owners. There are many and varied moving parts to keeping the Stones show on the road and keeping those parts running smoothly will be your primary focus. Good food is at the heart of what we do and we strive to create spaces that are a part of the community. Ensuring that we deliver on these values consistently will drive your work.

Managing a team, basic book-keeping and administration, statutory compliance and ensuring that we consistently deliver the best food and drink with excellent service will form the bulk of your day to day. Working closely with Rosie and Oliver you will help us build the future of Stones; allowing us to focus on developing the business without losing the essence of the bakery we have built.

Hospitality management experience is a must and you will need to combine attention to detail and the ability to develop and work with systems and processes with strong people skills and the ability to build and support a team positively.

 Responsibilities

  •  Ensuring that the food and drink we serve to our customers is always excellent
  •  Providing positive leadership to our team ; reinforcing our vision and values
  •  Making sure customer service is warm and inclusive and being a point of contact for customer feedback
  •  Communicating clearly and working closely with management to set goals and implement the actions to achieve those goals
  •  Monitoring and driving business performance and profitability by using financial data and planning effectively
  •  Ordering and stock control
  •  Managing the rota, annual leave and sickness cover
  •  Cash management and banking
  •  Recruitment, training and performance management
  •  Ensuring food safety and other statutory requirement compliance
  •  Some basic book-keeping and financial administration including invoicing wholesale customers, inputting bills and bank reconciliation
  •  Monitoring sales and liaising between production teams to ensure we maximise sales and minimise waste
  •  Assist with service where necessary at times of high demand

 Requirements

  •  Experience of hospitality and hospitality management a must
  •  Some basic book-keeping/financial administration knowledge would be useful
  •  Level 3 food safety or willing to work towards it
  •  A positive attitude with a solution focused mindset
  •  An enthusiasm for hospitality and a commitment to the values of Stones
  •  A love of good food and drink with an interest in wider food and hospitality culture
  •  Good people skills; able to balance building relationships with managing people effectively
  •  A thorough and organised style of working; able to keep on top of a wide ranging workload
  • An understanding of the realities of running a small business and the attention to detail required to ensure profitability
  •  A willingness to get stuck in and lead from the bakery floor
  •  Accuracy and diligence in keeping paperwork and financial information up to date

Please note that this is an in person position not suited to working from home.

Salary: £28,000 per annum
